Stephen Lee continued his recent good run when promising three-year-old Yo Ferdinand broke though for his maiden win at Grafton last Tuesday.
Yo Ferdinand, ridden by talented apprentice Cassandra Schmidt, sat off the pace in his third race start to win narrowly over 1100 metres.
Lee trained six winners in September and had two placings from his previous nine runners this month before Yo Ferdinand's victory.
Lee is a part-owner with eight others in the syndicate which races Yo Ferdinand on lease from Sydney breeder Val Gordon.
"He's a half brother to Felixtrinidad which was a very good horse I trained to win a Ballina Cup," Lee said.
"I'm hoping Yo Ferdinand can go on and do what Felixtrinidad did by winning in Brisbane."
Felixtrinidad was an eight-times winner including two wins in the Brisbane metropolitan area with another two victories at Ipswich and the Gold Coast.
Felixtrinidad, a son of Loup Sauvage, also was placed twice at Listed level in Queensland in the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich in 2007 and Ascot Handicap at Eagle Farm in 2008.
"I was very confident he would win his maiden at Grafton but I thought it would be a lot easier so the second horse is pretty good too," Lee said.
"He only just won but he's still very green. The two of them finished five lengths in front of the third horse.
"He came from behind which is good to see but I'll only give him one more run before I send him out for a spell."
